    **LeadTek PX7800GTX**How-to**

    Hi guys,

I have recentley purchased this baby from scan fro a reasonable £200. I have seen that it is possible to bios flash this card to run at 1250/450. The manufacturer also states the card will still be under warranty using thier bios.

So how the hell do I do this bios flash thingy then? I have tried doing it through windows and to no avail. Could someone please show me a tutorial / instructions on this.

Just out of curiosity, is this card a good overclocker on stock cooling, and what realistic clocks could I safely push it to ?

Under Windows, have you tried Coolbits or better still, RivaTuner.

Both are much safer than a BIOS flash.

To do what you are looking for, first you'll need a copy of the existing BIOS and a software tool to modify it. I believe the most popular tool is nhibitor.

A google using the terms "bios nhibitor" will find you some info:

you also need a PCI card (NOT PCI Express) or onboard graphics

ie an old vid card to watch your progress while you nuke your good cards bios and update it.

That didn't used to be the case with AGP cards. Why are PCI-E cards different?

im not sure what cooler is on that card, but 450/1250 should be easy enough just using rivatuner....if the cooler is half decent, then 500 on the core isnt unreasonable (but not guaranteed )

Wrong on that one buddy, you only need another PCI card if you kill the card and need to reflash it

Also, sorry to change the subject slightly, but £200? When did Scan have this moment of madness? I'd've quite happily got one or two for that money .

Yep, that's what I thought too.

I have read of some folks with PCI-E boards being unable to do this, because the BIOS didn't have an option to have the regular PCI card as the initial display device though.

I'm not sure which board it was, but it was an ASUS IIRC.

    Hi there,

Im sure the risk outwheys 30mhz more on the core and 50mhz on the memory. You will notice 1-2 FPS more at most in games.

Let it be, I have an 7800GTX and I only overclock for benchmarking, thats to 490/1300.

    Good luck

So is RivaTuner a better tool than coolbits then ?

I tried flashing the BIOS and tried the utilitiy that came with it, didn't work.

Couldn't be bothered using a floppy to do it so I just activated coolbits and clocked it to 490/1300 instead, stable and hardly goes above 80 degrees. Just a shame I missed out on the £140 GTX's from OCUK, two in SLI

RivaTuner is a good utility but I found that I didn't need the extra functionality, I only wanted to clock my card to a safe level and leave it.

I see, so your using stock cooling ? Do you only overclock ingame ? using the 3d detection or your overclocking all time ?

What typical fps do youy get in some games ? details please

Yep, only about two of them. They were in the clearance section. There's a huge thread on their forums about it because the system that should of prevented people ordering when out of stock failed. They also had 7800GTs for £80.
