    TFT Dilema

    hi guys

having read the post on that guy thats got a dead pixel, I want to know IF its possible to go to the shop and ask em to demo it to me before I buy to check for dead pixels (I dont want the hassel of ringing up and giving or receiving grief ) Anyway to my orginal question. Im having a prob deciding which TFT to get has anyone got any websites that do tft comparisons of recent TFTs (I've been to tomshardware.com)

Also which one should i get, taking into account that I play games ALOT, work with the PC for many hrs at a time and I occasionally watch moves

    1) 17" Hyundai Q17S TFT Silver MultiMedia 20.0ms
    2) Hercules ProphetView 920 Pro 17"
    3) 17" Iiyama TFT ProLite E431S-B Black

    Cheers!!

Most shops wont allow an RMa for a single dead pixel. it has to be a significant number.

I paid another £20 when I bought my Hitachi TFT for a pixel check where they tested the screen prior to despatch and replaced it if any dead pixels where found.

Then again the cheapo TFT I got for my other half apparently has a dead pixel on it , but I'm stuffed if I can find it !

    Found it

    http://shop.nexnix.co.uk/NexNix_Onli...tachi__48.html

if you phone them when you order and ask for the TFT check I think it is about £20 or so.

damn just seen they have dropped the price of the tft from about £400 when I first bought it !

I don't think that nexnix will do the pixel check on all the TFTs they list - they buy some on order, and only have a few models in stock.
I'm pretty sure they do for the Hitachi CMLwhateveritis, which is still a damn good choice.

The problem with buying from shops is that
    a) some shops won't let you check till you've paid
    b) if you check quickly and don't spot anything, but spot one when you take more time at home, you are screwed, as you've lost your right to return on discovering a flaw under the SOGA
    c) most shops only stock a two or three cheapy/crappy monitors.

    hi that would be me.

I would go with the advice above. If you are buying over distance (online) try and get a pixel test done. It doesn't matter how much it costs trust me, its worth it.

If you are buying from a store request that you see it tested. If you go about this the right way it shouldn't be a problem. Act as if you're pretty sure you will buy and would like to see it in action a little. If not try somewhere else. In the long run you'll be glad.

    Two things:

    1. I think i read somewhere that Hitachis are guaranteed dead pixel free? Am I completely making this up or is there any truth to it?

    2. Has anyone any information on whether dead pixels can develop over time? I can't seem to get a definite answer on this.

I got the NEC (Mitsubishi) 1701 last week from Scan (about £250 +VAT):

Very impressed, runs best in 1280x1024 and has a response time of 16ms !!! very good value for money IMO and not a dead pixel in sight.
