as far as i know the 6800's use the same mounting system as the 7900 and i changed the stock cooler on mine for the vf900.

4 screws... undo, clean core with Akasa tim-cleaner, apply thermal paste, spread with primary-school style glue spreader, pop on vf900, turn over card, tighten screws using the see-saw method.

Job done, couldnt be any easier. If you've installed a CPU HS you can do this.

I'll second that its a striaght forward job remember to clean and reaply tim and you love the quiet and the temps. My 6800GT now runs at 635 core 1100 memory.

Very easy to do. Just take your time. Make sure you put the card onto a soft surface and be gentle. Don't over-tighten the new fan but make sure it is on firm. The instructions are very good that come with Zalman.

One Tip: When it comes to attaching the sprung fixing nut things on the rear of the card, place the heatsink face down on a soft surface, then put the card on top of it, as there are some small washers that need to be placed between the card and the nuts which fall off all to easily if you're trying to do this the 'right' way round....

I have some of that Akasa tim-cleaner left... So i take this one off... tip the bottle quick and back onto a piece of kitchen paper. Rub in qentle circles and leave for a minute or 2... get a fresh piece of kitchen paper to remove it all.

Now do i do this to the ram or what? And can i put some new compound on the heatsink and then sit the card onto or does it have to go on the gpu first?

clean off the GPU and ram using those TIM cleaners... wipe clean and let it dry abit.. then put on some thermal compound on the GPU, like a pea worth at most... then attach the cooler..

My advice, never EVER EVEERR use any conductive thermal compound on the memory..

yea.. and if you're not very good with thermal compound application.. you're better off with ceramique...

Getting any of those AS5 on ANYTHING other than the core surface means bye bye 7900GT

    good luck mate..

    Keep us posted..

The ram sinks have thermal tape for putting on the memory, just peel the backing off and push firmly onto the RAM. DO NOT USE any compound on the ram at all.

yes.. push firmly and you'll probably yell in pain.. remember to use a towel ro some sort on your fingers..

I've used them on my VF700-Cu before and they are VERY painful.. they're as sharp as knifes..
