X800 PCI E card driver nightmare

Dunno if anyone can help, but I'll explain best I can and you can try to help me

    nForce4 mobo Asus A8N-E

    Fresh XP install.

Everytime I try to install Radeon Cats, I get something else tryingt to install (some bit of hardware) that can't find the driver.

To begion with I thought it was my sound card, but I have taken it out totally.

I rolled back to the fresh install of XP, using System Restore, and the PC boots perfectly, with no requests for any additional drivers.

Butas soon as I put (or try to put) Cat's in, after a reboot I have a request to install more drivers for "something"

In System Manager, there is a "something" with no category next to it...three times. Two of the three thhing show as being on the X800. Al have exclamation marks as they have no drivers.
If I Delete them from system manager, they return on next boot up.

I've updated XP to the latest, with .Net and tried the lastest 6.4 drivers, but to no avail.

I've used system restor right back to the first install, and then put older Cat 5.4's in, that don't use .Net, and put the control panel and the WD drivers in, and still it wants to install summit else.

    And I dont know what!

The Asus driver CD has drivers and accessories, but none seem to sort this.

Any clues guys? It's been 4 hours now!

    Cheers

so why doesn't it install from the Cat drivers?

I've tried the entire set, AND the individual ones (including the WDM driver)

    I feel a conflict

in my own inimitable way, I shall unveil my rampant stupidity.

I PRAY OTHERS LEARN from my own thick brained, daft-as-a-brush-ness.

    /deep breath.

The thing that was trying to install WAS conneted to my Radeon card. It was indeed my radeon card.

What I had done was to connect my DVI cable to output no 2, not no 1, for my monitor.

As soon as the monitor was plugged into number 1, the drivers went in and didn't ask for anything else.

    SO.....children:

    Don't start smoking
    Don't take drugs
Avoid alcohol if at all possible
    Be nice to mother nature...

AND WHEN INSTALLING XP, MAKE SURE YOUR MONITOR IS PLUGGED INTO OUTPUT ONE.

    Thanks
