    SLi 7600GS

    Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone has any views on these cards. I know they have 128bit memory but they don't seem like that bad cards.

Reading a reviews on XFX 7600GS's in SLi they seem to come close or beat the 7900GT in most cases. however when the nice effects get turned on at high resolutions they start to suffer.

If i could get 2 for £100 would that be a bad buy? Considering they are heatpipes / silent, dont require external power, small (so they fit in my case) and are the latest gen cards

Does anyone have any experience on them?

If i buy standard ones clocked at 400MHz is there a good chance they will go to 450 or maybe higher (ala XFX)?

    Cheers

    Ian

if you could get 2 for £100 then by all means go for it.. 7600GS arent that fast on its own but SLI results seems promising esp IF you can get them for £100 (2 of them)

Note however, I'd probably have a low speed 120mm side fan to blow at it. (coolermaster's one are like £4).. just to keep everything nice and cool

Ooh, where's that review? Not seen any figures for them in SLI... I saw them listed at 50 quid on a UK site, so 100 quid for a passive SLI setup would be good. You'd definately want some airflow over them to overclock.

one 120mm low speed fan with them bling bling lights shouldnt be too much of a noise penalty..

i am just wondering where i would put the 120mm fan though, as i have a antec amg plusview 1000 and it has a side input for an 80mm fan, and at present it exhausts air.

i will see what happens if and when i get them

    cheers

    ian

any idea what the step from an x800xl to two of these could be like?

edit: Sawyen DAMN YOU you are now above me on the cs ranks by one point, but thats only because i cannot play atm lol

well.. I went from a 7800GT to an x1800xt and its very noticeable.. esp in demanding games like FEAR..

You could install a 120mm - 80mm duct, will take at most another inch deeper into the case.

Or you could sit the 120mm fan on your HDD blowing straight into the voids between the 2 cards..

the duct wont work as the side fan is held on by plastic clip things

there is already 2 92 mm fans that blow into the case one below the harddrives and one between the harddrives.

i will see how that goes, and then if not may turn the 80mm fan around (it is a silenx iirc) to blow on the cards.

i was sorly tempted by an x1800xl aiw (as all it has is lower clocks - no missing pipes etc) for £200 but i will prob try that in a year or so, especially as ati mentioned something about their drivers going to allow for hardware movie encoding to help the cpu (and it is supposedly much faster than a p4). i'll see what happens

EDIT: YAWN just taking a break from my c++ programming; i have to write a program to do loads of insane stuff, read / write from a file and do some calculations and display a graph of a dampner system! (i forgot to mention i am crap at it! )
