Whats wrong with my monitor? (Black screens)

My monitor (lcd) keeps going very dull (Almost black, i can't read anything but can just see that theres somethign on the screen).

Its solved by turning the monitor off on the button then back on again. Time intervals are totally random, sometimes its fine for a few days but sometimes its going every minute or two. (Just did it that second!)

From my limited google searches it seems the backlight might be going?

Its a dell 17" analogue lcd which is about 18 months old but only had a 1 year warrenty. (Just turned off again!)

Thanks for any help, its not a big deal buts its getting bloody annoying

well u got it right seems to be the backlight, had some friends with dell monitors problems dont recomend, if a company gives u 1 year warranty when others give u 3 DONT BUY

nothing to do here friend you need hardware support, maximum u can change the monitor with some other if u have it at home just to be sure it s the dell.

Most LCDs on the market use a fluorescent backlight. That means that like normal fluorescent lights they will eventrually die and start to flicker before they go entirely. The very dull you experience is what you can see from room light that goes into you monitor and comes back out. I would reccomend a new monito, and don't ignore Dell just because of your problem. I have the 2001FP and its working fine so far and it came with a 3 year warrenty. For the most part my experience has suggested that Dell makes very good monitors(but not computers now a days). Of course you have every right to be ticked off at them so there is no reason why you have to buy another Dell.
You may be able to do something cleaver with another monitor of the same type with a broken screen but a functional backlight combining them, but that's just a guess.

    Best of Luck.
