    9800pro or 6600GT?

hi, i've just started to get into pc gaming as a back up to my consoles so i'm looking for a cheap way to get some extra life out of my PC, so i thought a 9800pro or a 6600GT card would be good, now i'm not looking at playing stuff like oblivion etc just mainly racing games, stuff that works well with the 360 pad i just got(toca works perfect with it)
    now my PC spec is-

    shuttle sn45g
    amd xP 2500 MOBILE@2.2ghz
    1gig of ram
    Geforce TI4200 128mb version

now toca3 runs at full res(only a 15inch tft), so will a 9800pro or 6600gt be worth the upgrade on my pc?

    thanks

I went from a Ti4200 to a 9800 pro and it was and still is my best upgrade ever. The 9800pro and 6600GT are both excellent cards the 6600GT is slightly faster but the pro can be picked up a little cheaper. Well worth it but dont expect to be able to max out many modern games even at 1024x768
    cheers

cheers for the reply, not expecting to get max res out of any game tbh, and i will probably loose interest in pc games after a couple of months hence why i don't want to get a full new pc.

not even sure what other games i would like(just ordered chrome for £2 to give that a try)

Either card should give a decent boost to that system... I know it did to mine! Personally, I went for the 6600GT - if you can find a 9800 Pro for a decent price, then it'll probably still do fine, but 6600GTs are easier to find.

You can pick up a used 6800GT for around £100 on Ebay. Now thats a good card.
If you want to be able to play todays games and tomorrows at good resolutions and with some settings on then thats the one to go for.

If not the 6XXX series cards have better support for newer graphic features i.e SM3 than the older 9800Pro and can probably be picked up for similar money on Ebay - bout 50/60 quid.

EDIT: I meant to mention that Custom PC has a massive feature on Graphics cards this month Featuring 9800Pro all the way to X1900XTX and giving various comparisons. It's a great feature!

if u are choosing between those two the 6600 gt is your beset bet as has sli capapbility and suports shader models i think and if u check custom pc is actually far better than the 9800

thanks guys, i'll take a look on ebay, not wanting to spend that much as i don't really think i will play that many games, as my 360/xbox/ps2/cube cover 99% of my gaming time
just want to play games like GTL/GTR etc which do run ok now but a bit more detail would be great

and with it been in a shuttle space is a big issue

True for PCI-Express, but if this guy's got a Ti4200 (i had one, great card) then he'll be AGP.
The AGP 6600GT's are as good as the PCI-Express cards, so i'd get that.
What is really a shame is that there arn't any AGP 7600 series cards, as they draw little power and produce little heat, which would be perfect in a shuttle.
