6800 is it dead?

Ive had the standard 6800 in my third PC now for over a year. I powered it on a few days back and I get thick grey lines and squares/flashing sqaures all over the screen from first boot.

I reseated the card a number of times and rechecked the heatsink (which despite taking out the plastic legs I couldnt remove the sink) but it still had this problem.

Its a AOpen 6800 DV128. So I thought it might need a bios flash but their website has no bios's listed under that card! Great!!!


The AOpen site also says its only covered from 15months since manufacture which must be out of date now. plus I think they are continental

Do you think there is anything I can do before I place it in the bin?

Have you checked the temperatures? Not sure if 6800's have bios temp measuring, if not poke it with your finger, if it burns the card is too hot.

Have a look, I think there should be something to flash your bios with there too.

I had the same with a 6800gt, the screen went yellow and white checkerboards but no amount of bios flashing or heatsink reseating would fix it. I wouldnt hold out much luck I'm afraid. Sold it on ebay for £30 as broken though so wasn't a dead loss.
