    Question about Zalman VF-CU900 on a 7800GT

    Hi All,
I'm thinking about buying an aftermarket cooler to cut out the whine that my XFX 7800GT currently makes. Has anyone got experience with this cooler? My main question is: will I be able to plug the Zalman into the onboard fan header? The fan seems to be speed controlled at the moment and it'd be good if this could stay...

if you mean the VF900 then yes i have experience of fitting/using it on my almost identical 7900gt. Its extremely easy to fit and provides good, quiet cooling. However it does not plug into the card directly it requires a motherboard 3 pin slot, but if you 7v/5v it its so quiet you wont be bothered.

    That was quick!
Ta for the response... I'd like it to be as silent as possible in Windows and spin up somewhere near max in games, ideally.

If I run the fan quietly enough to blend into the background, will it cope in games?

Even at full speed my VF900 is near silent but if you do want to run it slower, the difference will only be a few degrees.

Yep it should cope no problems, providing you have at least some case cooling obviously. I've found changing the fan speed doesnt really make much difference to its cooling really.
