Sapphire X800 GTO agp

Hi all,

Alarm bells rang when the box-shot looked nothing like it does in the picture. Anyway, having opened it up I discovered that the card looks nothing like it does in the picture. 1st of all it's on a red PCB but most notably it is physically enormous length-wise and I doubt it's going to fit into my shuttle.

Edit: Just found this http://www.4gamer.net/specials/2005_winter/img/a03b.jpg which looks like what I have ended up with. A lot longer than the other mystery Sapphire X800gto agp - what gives? How bllody stupid to have two cards the same but not the same.

At first I thought micro-direct had screwed up and put an image of the PCI-E version on their site by mistake using the standard "Images are for illustration only" get-out clause under it. However having googled for it I found a review and it is indeed an AGP card. http://www.tech-mods.net/modules.php...wreview&id=158

So what the hell have I been sent? It says it's a GTO on the box, it's definitely AGP and the sapphire part #s match up, but it's a physcially enormous and totally different looking card compared to the MD picture, and the one in the review. Are there two versions of the same card?

This is the 2nd time this has happened where I have ordered something which turns out to be complete different to what I was expecting and I think it's about time shops started taking responsibility for images and getting it right.

I've now got this thing and probably won't be able to use it. I'm bloody irritated at the whole thing I must say

If you're not happy with the card, return it within 7 days, thats your right under the distance selling regulations.

The 7 day cooling off period is for eventualities just like that, where you buy something without seeing it first and it isn't what you expected.

I think that's what I'll have to do really. I'll have to get the tape measure out and see if it will fit in my shuttle, in which case there won't be a problem. The trouble with returning stuff under the DSR is that I'll have to fork out the postage to send it back (probably a tenner or so for special delivery) plus I won't get the postage refunded to send it to me in the 1st place

So I'm out of pocket by 20 quid because I foolishly assumed what was in the picture was what I'd be receiving! Grrrrr

Hmm, if there was a real problem and you had to send it back then ring up and ask for postage...I did that when I ordered a crappy MP3 player that was refurbished heh, and sent it back because it was DOA! You could always try ringing up - they can only say no

Yeah, i'm gonna have a quick inspection when I get home to see if I could shoe-horn it in there, otherwise I will grovel with their CS dept and see if they will be sympathetic

Ah well, flogged the GTO and got an X850 Pro which is native AGP so much smaller. What's even better though, is it successfully unlocked to all 16 pipes

ahh.. good choice..

The X850Pro at 16pp wont last you ages, but will get most of today's job done.. Suprised the shuttle actually fits a dual slot cooler..

The 850pro is single slot, only the XT version is dual. I've unlocked the 16 pipes, but clocked it to the default Pro speeds (500/500) so as not to push my luck with heat etc. Seems to be a great little card. OK not quite state of the art and no PS3.0 but it'll inject a bit of adrenaline into my PC and hopefully put off the inevitable PCI-E upgrade until next year.

I'm using an x800pro unlocked to 16 pipes at 500/500 (although it goes a bit higher, I too am limiting it, and it's an easy set of numbers to remember...!)

I've found it copes perfectly with FarCry and HL2 at 1280x1024 - I need some new games though...
