    htpc graphics decisions...

I'm currently running a 9800pro AIW (xp-m 2500+, 1.5Gb ddr400, k7s41 mobo) alongside an avermedia DVB-T 771 card. I also own an old fx5600, and am considering trying to buy an x800xt AIW.

note: neither AIW card is supported properly/fully in linux/MythTV

This computer is to become an HTPC over the coming months, but is currently going to have to double as my main&gaming rig at least for a few months, possibly to the end of the year (say 6 months). The x800xt comes with HDTV component breakout, but then the tv I have also has DVI and VGA inputs... The fx5600 doesn't do video in (at least I understand it doesn't) but then I could possibly use the DVB-T card for that (not entirely sure it'd accept HDTV input though - I think not? - but then the x800xt might not accept hdtv IN either?)

    indecisive? moi?

From what i've read, the geforce 7 series are the ones to go for, regards HTPC setup.
They have onboard mpeg hardware encoders, as well as being excellent for gaming frame rates.
Probably a 7900GT or something similar would be perfect ?

    thanks for the input but...

I should have said ... motherboard is AGP, but anyway, if I had £200 to blow on a graphics card it'd be going in my gaming rig!! I'm not convinced I need the 3d power of a 7900 either, so would probably be looking at 7300 cards? Do nvidia cards even have video inputs though? I was under the impression that they didn't...

I've decided to stick with my 9800pro AIW. It apparently can do HDTV component in/out with the right breakout cables/boxes and has options for 720p and 1080i in the driver set. So long as that all works inside MythTV I should be fine?
