7800GTX vs newer cards in terms of noise...

    Hi,

I have a 7800GTX, it's been going strong since last June but with a new computer I'm hoping to get a new graphics card...

Is there going to be a new Nvidia/ATi card at the top end within the next 3 months or so which will make me wait? In particular a single slot card?

But otherwise, I've been delighted with how amazingly quiet my 7800GTX has been. Currently I think the best single slot card (vital by the way) is the 7900GT (some uber uber version), how do they compare in terms of noise though?

    Thanks,

    ShMeE

    7900GT is actually cooler than a 7800GTX
The Zalman copper flower thing is well worth the money, i have one on my 7800GT, and its made a huge difference to noise and temps

BTW : I wouldnt recomend going from a 7800GTX -> 7900GT unless you *really* have a good reason to. What games to you currently play that push your current card to its limit ?

7900GT is definately quieter than 7800GTX because it's cooler with 90nm fab. Somehow, you could change the stock fan to a Artic cooler. It would be much quieter and give you more room to overclock the baby
Most of the people can clock it to 600/1550, a real bargain!

Right so if I was changing now it would definitely be to a 7900GT, I suppose it isn't really worth it and I should go straight for the next gen cards whenever they are around having used my 7800GTX until then. I just liked the idea of going straight in with new everything at one point rather than changing it again later.

    Thank for the input guys,

No point in getting a new card. A X1900XTX would be a upgrade, but probly not worth the cash, and might be a tad to loud for you.
