I think you should spend £100 on a good gfx card with 128mb or 256mb of ram as there are no cards worth having with 512mb of ram in that price bracket IMHO

i agree with him an x1600pro is not going to play any games at high res so why buy a card with more texture space if it won't be used, buy a 6800GS hands down a whole lot better card.

well, to be fair.. he never said he was going to use that card to play games..

some professional imaging software can well use the 512MB framebuffer.. say molecular enzyme/protein imaging? I'm sure there are others softwares which behaves the same way..

The X1600Pro is definitely up to scratch to run some of the biological imaging softwares I use..

Yeah, you can get an ATI 512 for about 100 quid
EDIT: but.. as people say.. it's not really worth it..

£81 for a 6800XT can't be bad. Bit slower than the GS at about £140, but hey!

saying that, I've not had a game my ATI 9550 can't run yet!

I'm gettin the above one i think, sounds pretty good - cos you have something like an 80% chance of unlocking an extra 4 pipes - from 8 to 12 (as well as a small chance of unlocking all 16) - so.. basically a cheap GT if you're lucky!
