    Widescreen gaming

I have BF2 running in widescreen, ...but it is resisting all attempts by me to change the resolution to anything other than 1680x1050, and my poor old 9800pro is struggling a little bit.

I have altered the shortcut to include +szx 1280 and +szy 720 to no avail. Game is still starting up at 1680

I have tried editing the config files but BF2 crashes to desktop if I set these to anything other than 4:3 ratios.

I have tried setting my desktop to 1280x720 prior to launching BF2 - still starts up at 1680.

I have tried deleting the config files and used the shortcut with the szx and szy commands, still stuck at 1680...

    any further ideas?

    Try 1440x900 or 1280x768 or 1280x800

1280x720 is probably not a proper resolution for the display?

hmmm, good point... not sure 1280x800 is an option provided by the graphics card of course... Might try 1440x900 to see if it actually changes from 1680. good thinking.

AFAIK BF2 doesn't support widescreen - there's no FOV improvement, it just cuts the top and bottom off or stretches your current FOV.

this is true ... but it should be able to do it at more than one resolution ... in fact I'm pretty sure the previous patch worked better with WS resolutions
