    DirectX 10 Graphics Cards

    So the story goes....

Was thinking about buying a new graphics card for Flight Simulator X when it comes out with Vista.

But i have been told that i will need a DirectX 10 card to runs full rates.

Should i go ATi or Nvidia and whats the latest news on DirectX 10 GPU's?

    Thanks all

    Darren

noone really knows, best bet atm would be ATi as they have already made a DX10 card (the xbox 360) but other than that we canot tell you until it comes out....

Ati have been quite vocal about their planning for dx10 and r600 so one would assume that they have something to be proud of. Nvidia have been comparatively quiet about g80 other that like r600 it has unified shaders. Should be quite a battle but impossible to predict a winner now.

As for todays cards the x1900xtx holds the performance crown but lower downs it really is 6 and two 3s which card you choose.

I would like to stick to Nvidia as i have a SLi mobo. But i'm not really making use of it and i dont htink i ever will as, GPU go out of date so quickly and it makes sense to buy a new updated card rather than buying an old model. (6800gt)

Think i will go ATi next time.

You don't need to stick to Nvidia if you have an SLI board, like you say most of the time dual GPU's is a waste for most people.

I don't like my premium, PCI bus seems to be bad as I get problems if I have sound and SCSI controller both running (it is a creative so..)

I think a lot of people are waiting for DX10 hardware to become available. I took a look on wikipedia for an overview and learned a few things :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct3D#Direct3D_10

I thought NVidia had stated pretty categorically that G80 wouldn't have unified shaders, as they didn't see the point yet. They did say it would be able to do MSAA along with FP16 HDR though.

Interesting article there Davos. I'm still deciding on whether to just get an X1900XTX when I buy my new comp, or if I should hold out for DX10... By the time I 've saved for the parts, DX10 might even be out already! lol

I'd wait for DX10 mate. Whats the point of a oh-so sexy expensive DX9 part when it won't run Crisis full??
