I have recently built my new rig (At last)
I was about to install the drivers for the GPU using the provided CD and thought would it be better to download the latest drivers and software and not bother with the CD?
On the other hand is it better to use the CD then upgrade from there.
I performed the former on my sons comp recently and still ended up using the CD for a couple of bits that windows needed.
So there you go wich is better ?
Dunno , I never use the CD always download the latest ATI/Nvidia drivers and doubleclick on the exe. If you download the complete package (as opposed to just drivers) you get the latest contol centre/applet as well.
Yes i have done that with ATI
But the Nvidia driver is just a driver and i can't find all the other stuff to download as a package
It can depends on what card you're installing...if it's more than just a graphics card (i.e. Video Capture too) then it can be best to install those applications from the CD, as they're not always freely available on the web, though this is increasingly common).
If it's just drivers that need to be installed though, I always install straight from the web...installing from CD first isn't advised, as you're meant to remove the previous drivers before you install the new ones anyway...

Thats what prompted me to post this thread
I have dl the latest graphics and WDM drivers for my card i am unable to find anything els of relevance
So i think i will just do the same as before unless anyone knows a better plan:)

There's no need to install WDM unless you do...just the graphics driver.
No but past experience says its more hastle not to.
I went to the xfx site and dl a sixty meg file wich covered everything and my forceware version is 91.29
I am now concerned that my NVRAID hard drives pop up in the safely remove hardware list
:(
That isn't anything to worry about i think its because SATA drives are classed as plug and play, and i don't think that it will allow you to stop the drives anyway.Quote:
