    New Monitor Recommendations

    Hi,

I'm in the process of building a new PC and have I decided I want to replace my two Samsung SyncMaster 172v's with two new screens with better response times.

I'm limited to the amount of space I have on my desk so two 17" monitors is my space limit (without speakers), I quite like the Sony SDM-HS75PS but am looking for some feedback on this monitor or some suggestions for alternatives.

    Hey man, Neil-UKWSD

I just got my new pc with two -- ViewSonic VX922 LCD 19" - 650:1 - 2ms -- 300$US not bad for a 2ms response time!!! Great for gaming! But the 650:1 contrast is not the best for videos editing...
    --Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4800+ @ 2.4GHz -- AS-A8N-SLI PREMIUM -- OCZ 2GB PC-3200 Gold GX -- WD 74GB 10KRPM RAPTOR S-ATA -- BFG GeForce 7900GTX Dual 512MB -- Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic -- Dual ViewSonic VX922 LCD 19" - 650:1 - 2ms -- Aspire X-Navigator(ALU) w 500w ps -- Logitech Z-5500 Digital --
    -- Dimension 9150 -- Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.2Ghz -- 1GB DDR2 533MHz -- Dell mainboard -- 160GB HHD -- GeForce 6800GT 256MB -- Surround Sound 5.1 -- 19" UltraSharp --

Try looking at the VP730 from Viewsonic (got it's bigger brother and is very nice). To be honest though the 17" market has kind of plateued so most of the monitors are likely to be fairly similar (ie TN panels with good response times but not great viewing angles). Having said that I'd stick to either a Viewsonic or a Samsung, the best you can afford (BenQ may be worth a look as well). One thing it can be good to consider is the companies dead pixel policy (I know Viewsonics is pretty decent in this area, especially on their VP models, zero sub pixel defects!)

    Now you've got me looking...

Have just been looking at the Samsung SM940BF (I know it's 19", just looking for more reviews), I had looked at a BenQ but seems to have a lot of reports of backlight leaking from the top and bottom.

    Hi MantisCSS,

Thanks for the PM, am looking for a monitor with DVI outputs to eliminate having to use the dongles to connect the monitors to the GFX card.

The Samsung I found some very good feedback on is a little more than I was looking to spend, infact I think I paid the same each for the 17" 172v's I have here now but for gaming they are a little naff.

I have narrowed it down to the following:

    Samsung SM940BF (http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx...avigationKey=0)

    or

    Viewsonic VX922 (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=326948)

Yeah, I need (want) two. Couldn't go back to just one screen.
