max safe ambient temps for 6800gt ?

whats the max safe ambient temps for the 6800gt , i have just installed a nv silencer 5 rev2 on my aopen 6800gt and the ambient temp goes upto 51c but the gpu only reaches 57c under load . is this a problem and could it cause problems ? , where is the temp unit on the 6800gt ?

yes it is but why does the ambient reach 51c ? , it never did with the stock cooler but the gpu reached over 67c while playing fear etc

ps: my card is clocked at 395/1100

mine does the same thing after water cooling, its due to the lack of airflow over teh rest of the board with either waterblocks or nv silencers compared to a stock cooler. Provided it doesnt get above 60 degrees i wouldnt worry about it.

whats the heatsink for behind the molex connecter ?

power transistors, mosfets iirc, you really shouldnt consider removing it, as they get very hot indeed.

not a clue. my money would be on somewhere near the ram, otherwise i cant seeit being so much hotter than actual ambient, but it could be anywhere

I wouldn't worry about your temperatures. I had some trouble with a passive 6800 with a badly fitted cooler, and it got to ~ 114C before it crapped out. Even then, after a cool and a restart it would startup without issue (and then get very hot within 10 minutes and die again).

I sent it back to the seller, who I understand refitted the cooler and it was completely fine after that. Modern graphics cards are pretty resilient to overheating.

'Ambient' temperature is sometimes actually the gfx ram temperature, as opposed to the GPU temp, so you're value is definately no problem. The 6800gt is especially resiliant to high temps so don't worry

ur temps are fine, althoguh they do seem a little higher than usual, i have a 7800GTX running at 40 on idle at 490/1310. and thats using the same cooler as you.

He's not running a 7800gtx, and it's not always very helpful to compare different types of card. 50-60 for a 6800GT is cool

okey dokey, i didnt say the temps were high. i was just saying that maybe he he could get lower.

i have changed my case and the idle temps are now 39c ambient and 48c gpu , under load in fear the ambient hits 47c and the gpu hits 57c . the case is a cheap tak one that cost £16 but the air flow is better than the one i paid £55 for , hmm i think i might get that 7800gs i have seen now lol . whats the temps like on the 7800 ?
