LEDs on ATI X1800s

Hi again all,

Sorry to bug you again, but I'd like to pick your collective brains for this one...

On my X1800 card there are two surface-mount LEDs, one marked EXT_PWR and the other marked T_FAULT

Now the question beckons: what are these for and what do they mean? I've not been able to find anything much after some Google searches appart from others asking the same question.

At the moment, the EXT_PWR LED is red and lit on my card, which makes me think that there is some kind of problem - do you think that this means I need to start saving for a new PSU?

At a guess, EXT_PWR is external power, in other words, you have the PCI-E power connector plugged in. As long as that's the one lit up and not the one marked fault, you should be fine.

No the LED means that the EXT_PWR is working Red because its er ATI

both lights should be off btw, only lighting up if theres a problem.

That's a point actually fullfat, you're right mate. It's really weird because it was on ealier, and now I just rebooted and it's off... sounds fishy to me! (to double-check I even disconnected the lead to see what it would do - and the red LED was lit) - I will investigate some more!
