Hi
I currently have an ATI X800XT and am looking to upgrade. I don't have loads of cash to splash about, but what is the best value for money upgrade at the moment? And how much would I get for flogging my X800XT?
Cheers for any help.
Ben.

To be honest you've not got a lot of choice on the AGP side of things as far as value for money goes. You could get a card that adds SM3.0 capability for not a lot of money (1600pro) but the performance in older games won't be any better.
To actually see a noticable performance increase (as opposed to just more features/effects) you'd have to spend quite a lot of money.
I haven't got AGP I've got PCI!!

PCI-E I presume?

If you're on a £200 budget.. X1800XT Scan... nuf said..
Me want Ultrabook
Ah apologies I seem to have completely curfuddled the X800 generation in my headOriginally Posted by planetgong
In that case the 7600GT is a fantastic buy for you - very good value for money and great performance. It's about 120 quid and plays all modern games great
You should get about £80 for your X800XT, BTW
I think you'll probably be lucky to get £80 for it unfortunately, I'd say more like £70 or even £60 as I just sold one for that.
7600gt for £120ish or the 512mb x1800xt for£170 in the bargains section would be the best bet with a little more money.
Yup PCI-E.
Can probably afford to spend £100 + whatever I get for my X800xt. Would I see much of a performance jump going to a 7600gt? Could probably stretch to a x1800xt. How future proof is that i.e. how long until I have to upgrade again!?
Thanks for the replies guys.

X1800XT is a sound bet. It'll last as long as the rest your rig easily.
It should run almost everything with the eye candy cracked all the way and still be silky smooth.
dunno about that, the thing that will be holding you back when the future comes will probably still be the graphics card but the best value point in the market to buy is £150-200 so you dont really have a choice if you want to upgrade
constant upgrades are never good but £200 now and £200 in a couple of years is much better than spending £400 now
I would go for the X1800XT especially if you like playing Oblivion. An alternative would be the 7900GT at £180 from dabs which is very fast at most games.
256mb X1800XT from OCUK.
I say a X1800XT 512mb from scan. The Asus one seems to be the only one in stock at £176 but that's still good value. Just costs a little bit more compared to the 256mb version at ocuk.
Apparently a 7600GT performs similarly to a 6800GT? So I don't think you'll notice any performance increase at all if you got that.
Well, imho the 7600gt will surpas ALL 6800 models availiable. Therefore there will be a difference, but duno it his is that noticable.Originally Posted by Choo Choo
But in midrange, i can`t see anything better than 7600gt, there is nothing from ATI till the x1800 wich is comparble. It is the todays gf4ti4200
and todays 5900xt, and todays 6600gt. a quality purchaseOriginally Posted by schneider0815
