19" LCD Monitor - now what else do i need to change

Its about time to upgrade from my crt running at 1024 x 768 to a nice new Samsung SyncMaster 940BF running at 1280 x 1024.
Now comes the problem. Short of replacing my motherboard/processor/graphics card will it be possible to run games such as Doom, Half Life and Far Cry at this new resolution by just changing the 9800pro AGP card with my Athlon 3000+ 2000MHz skt 754 processor or am I wasting my time

You don't have to run your games at 1280x1024 either. Obviously Windows looks best at that resolution, but in my experience (with my 19" Samsung), lower resolutions like 1024x768 look perfectly fine on LCDs.

    Thanks for the advice.
It looks as though I don't need to jump in with major changes yet

Yeah you'll be OK for now. Save some money up and wait and see what's around after the Core 2 Duo CPUs and boards are out and about.
