i got a nvidia fx5200mb 256mb graphics card today to finish my htpc project and i have connected it to my crt tv with a s-video to scart cable and the screen is a really good picture but its only in black and white any ideas how to sort it out?

Do you have your PC outputting video in the correct format (PAL-I)?
You probably either need to tell your TV that it needs to read s-video on the SCART connection you are using or you need to set the output to PAL instead of NTSC in the video card drivers.
The problem is almost certainly one or the other.....probably the former.
When I've had this problem, it's always been because the TV hasn't recognised the signal as S-Video, although the NTSC/PAL issue is also something to bear in mind.
If it's a verrry old TV, (like one of mine), you may need an SVideo to composite adapter - they're about £3, but this may not be necessary, depending on your TV
ok first i will try and make sure my pc is outputing the right signal (pal) where can i find the options to change it i am using the newest nvidia drivers! :embarrassed:
Having had a quick flick around google, it looks like it probably is that your TV doesn't know it's receiving an s-video signal so is treating it incorrectly.

even thought mine isn't an adapter but a s-video to scart lead not s-video to scart adapter do you think it is worth a try?
You might want to first try flicking through your TV's different 'Ext' input settings (if it has them), as you may find that there is an S-Video input available.
i have flicked through the ext settings and there only seems to be ext 1,2,3,4 and non of them are in colour! :undecided
You may have to plug it into the correct scart socket?
Alternatively, get an s-video - s-video lead. I do this and it works perfectly.

ok i tried the s-video mod and everything appeared in colour just the wrong colours:confused:
blue things were green. red things were pink etc....
ok i have undone that mod and now its back to black and white!
so does anybody know how to make sure my pc is outputting in pal not ntsc as i cant fond the option!
Right click your desktop -> properties.
It'll be under the 'TV settings' tab or similar (I have an ATI card, and I can't remember what the nVidia driver looks like).
Back in the days when I tried running my PC through to a standard TV, I found that this problem was at times related to the quality & length of the S-Video cable.
The problem can sometimes be remedied by changing the output source from S-Video to Composite in the nVidia control panel (even though it is connected to the S-Video). Problem is it was so long ago, I can't remember where these options were in the nVidia control panel.
ok everybody thanks for the help but i have finnally decided that it is probably the s-video to scart lead that is causing the problem so i have ordered one of these ones as it seems it has cured the same problem for a lot of other people!
