Question Which 20" Widescreen TFT Monitor?

I think I should start by saying that I know absolutly nothing about TFT monitors .

I'm looking to buy a new monitor as I've just had a big decrease in desk space. I play a lot of CS, so it must be good at displaying games as well as all the other stuff a normal monitor will come into contact with . I don't want to spend much (about £300), but I'd obviously still like something decent.

I've been pointed towards this site to get the DELL 2005FPW. What are peoples opinions on that one? I know a few people who have that, and they seem to like it, but are there any others I should be considering?

Not sure how soon I want a new monitor though, but I thought I'd ask to keep my options open .

I got a 2007WFP just the other week and I'm continually impressed. You should still be able to pick it up for about £300 in some places, Dell had a sale on until last week where it was only £284!

Completely recommended if you can get it for a decent price, I think it's pushing it a bit for the £437 asking price they currently have it as, but if you see it for a decent price, snap it up.

I guess the only difference between the 2005 and the 2007 is a better quality screen?

Can someone tell me if these screens would fit on my 48cm wide desk (about as wide as my keyboard), with the screen at the back and the keyboard immediatly facing it without turning it at an angle?

- DVI helps to ensure high quality image (no jitter), and stupendous colour uniformity.
- HDCP helps enable viewing of protected high-definition content.
The HDCP support looks like it's the main change between the 2005 and the 2007, but is it worth it? What exactly does it do? Will it mean I don't be able to view some media (under vista only?) if I go with the 2005?

At the moment, I'm trying to wait for a dell sale (apparently their prices drop a lot) as the 2007 looks a lot nicer asthetically, and (imo anyway) will probably last longer with the HDCP. Am I right?

HDCP is needed if you want to view high def films on visita. I think the 2007 also display image better than the 2005 one ( not a lot thought).

Its at komplett. Very ugly itself, has a quoted 2000:1 contrast ratio I think, which probably means that the people at LG have invented an innovative new way of measuring contrast ratios. Its predecesor was quite a good screen by most accounts, but has been disctontinued and dissapeared from komplett's website the day before I ordered it.

its intresting because, bit-tech gave the Viewsonic vx 2025 a gold award where as CPC didnt even give it a badge.

I have the 19" version of the NEC and all i can say is that its a superb monitor.

CPC have recently reviewed the 20.1inch 2007WFP and they gave it the premium approved badge, its all down to who you have bought from before and personal taste imo

@ajbrun -
I'm trying to wait for a dell sale
is on Dell UltraSharp™ 2007WFP 20.1

Was going for ViewSonic's 20.1" VX2025wm but browsed over to Dell & found above offer. This put it within £19 of the viewesonic so i thought i'd go for the dell.

But
Only issue i've just seen tonight is a bit disturbing BE Hardware Dell 2007WFP Review
If you think you are dreaming and you already have your hand on your wallet, here is the cold shower: The monitor we have received was equipped with a LM201W01 panel that was already found in the previous 2005FPW. It is, however, a newer version. The reference is the same but it has been improved. Afterglow is less visible and standard color quality has been corrected. Unfortunately the reaction time isn’t as good as the NEC 20WGX²
Does any one have any experience of this ??. I'm a little wary & wonder if my 1st choice is best. I can understand that Dell change specs but i don't want to get something that isn't a match to what i see reviewed & what i expect.

thanks

I use my 2005FPW for gaming and it's great, BF2 looks excellent. I really do not think you'll have a problem with the response time, they're really good monitors. I bought it when they'd just come out too, so it's not one of those with the revised panel.
