Okay.. lousy comparison, which is better.. 6800GT or 7600GT

Just want to get enough facts to shut some fanboi up in another forum I subscribed to..

IMO, 7600GT is a better card in terms of equal performance and cooler operations

    What do you guys think?

    7600GT afaik

Same as you said - runs on a die shrink, better architecture, more efficient and a faster card

Out of interest how on earth is this fanboi managing to argue that a 6800GT is better than a 7600GT?

Nothing much really... he wasnt convinced that a 7600GT is better than his 6800GT. I was just trying to convince another fellow user about building a video encoding system (that occassionally plays Guild Wars) on a 7600GS/GT. He suddenly jumps into the thread went all amuck and start acting like a fool.. details I'll keep for myself..

Well, perhaps fanboi isnt a good word..

Actually it really isnt important, I'm just wanted to let it off here..

And how did he argue? well.. say some very foolish insults, some sort of talks about having 16 willies.. and an extra 128bits of balls.. The fact that he's still allowed in the forum is that he's the mod's brother... I know.. better way is to not go there.. but there are alot of sane ppl there, and it makes my experiences there worthwhile. Besides, its not exactly a tech forum.

This is a review from Anandtech comparing 7600 and 7900 against the 6800 and 7800. The benchmarks from the mid-range tests say it all I think.

I have a friend that comes on my teamspeak and still reckons that his 6800GT is better than any current graphics card out atm, and will not listen when I tell him that my card would not only eat his card for breakfast but would eat his card at any meal of teh day after taht, even with 2 of them. But, meh, I can't be bothered argueing with noobs who know nothing...

In situations like this I just agree with them totally, walk away and then die laughing at such stupidity

    Update:

Nope, facts dont work with this fool. He's stone-cold convinced that the whole 7600 range is rubbish and an utter waste of money. And he's certain he'd be able to get a 6800GT alot cheaper in the states. A fun twist come when he's convinced if he needed a mid range card better off getting an X1800GTO.. and when we went into possible heat issues in an SFF, here's an exact quote.. 'oh no... 6800 will run hot too! OMG OMG... your cpu will run hot too, why dont u take underclock that thing. underclock all your hardware? they wont run hot then. if its running hot and it wont screw over, it doesnt matter if its hot'.

Just for the fun of it.. he responds with one of the classiest reply ever.. '7600 and 7300 range cards are a total waste of money, no one in their right mind would recommend them to anyone'. And I've been solemnly educated that I'd be able to play Guild Wars on an Intel GMA900 better than a 7300GT if I'd turn down eye candy a few notch... well, we learn something new everyday..

I've given up on giving facts and getting thrown back with insults...

*chuckles* The difference between them isn't worth an upgrade, but no-way would any sane person actually choose the 6800GT in preference over a 7600GT.

The 6800GT can be overclocked to the same performance as a stock 7600GT very easily, but why pay more money, have more heat and power draw for the privaledge?
