    Killing a 9800pro with a Dell 2005fpw

    Ok.

I just bought a 2005fpw, and am currently running a 9800pro. I'm guessing that my 4 year old card is going to struggle to make the most of the monitor?

The card is clocked to 403:371, and is the 256Mb Pro Sapphire version. Screen runs at 1680 x 1050, and will be used for general browsing, office use, DVDs etc. A bit of gaming, but not enough to warrant buying an uber 10xSLI rig for.

DVDs are what I really want to look as good as possible.

    SO

My questions are - would upgrading to a 6800Gs or similar make DVDs look any better? Will my 9800 pro cope at all? Or will it be fine as it is?
I know the obvious answer to the latter is "wait and see", but I want to do a bit more shopping tonight or tommorow!

    Cheers!!!

    Jonny

Well my current graphics card runs games very well at native resolution but I was using a 9800SE for a week (whilst I was transitioning between AMD and intel ) and I had to flash it to 9800 Pro just to be able to get above 20fps on CSS with lowest settngs (had a 3500+ AMD64, 1GB, 256MB 9800SE) and with flashed to Pro I was getting around 30-40 which is still not acceptable to me.. So my advice would be to get a card with as much VRAM as possible! But in answer to your question about DVDs looking better I would be looking at getting a X1600 (I'm not sure about Nvidia, but ATi has AVIVO which improves playback quality).
