I thought I would share the details of my recent purchase with you all in the hope that other may benefit from my positive experience.
Yesterday I took delivery of a Dell 2407FPW which is something I have been after since last December (albeit the 2405 back then). I was never happy about paying the price on Dell's web site circa. £820, and saw it at Scan for about £700.
I kept an eye on Ebay where is was about the £600 mark and was very tempted. Looking slightly further afield I saw it at US$749.99 from a guy in California. The monitor is brand new, not even out of the box! Given the exchange rate (1.88) and the delivery charge I landed up paying £480 (US$907.99), plus the customs and VAT of £30 I ended up paying £510 for this monitor. Currently £110 cheaper than Dell's 'sale' price!!!
So, last night I set it up, it is to replace my Eizo T960 21" CRT (any offers?) and my 15" NEC TFT. All I can say is WOW! What an incredible piece of kit! The first monitor I have ever seen that looks as good switched off as it does switched on!
Suffice to say I am very impressed with this screen, not only does it take up a lot less space in my already small study, but the picture is so crisp and bright (I have the brightness set at 40%) It makes the CRT seem prehistoric. Not that the Eizo was bad, new it cost over £1000. Tonight I am looking forward to watching some 1080p downloads from Apple to test out the quality.
The only thing left to do is to transfer the warranty from the US to the UK.
BTW, if anyone decides to follow suit here, you will need a UK kettle lead for the power supply.

though I don't see how they are different, are you not allowed to plug an IEC lead into a kettle or something?
