    The 'Chuck' Patch..

Ok, I've just got Oblivion yesterday..

I was tempted to try the so called 'chuck' patch everyone's been raving about on my X1800XT

Honestly, how bad will it affect performance? The game is already pretty wonky with HDR on 1440x900 as I can barely keep it at 40fps..

Also, I have heard that when using the chuck patch, you cant actually alt-tab? How does it work?

    Comments welcomed..

I think you need 2 cards to apply the chuck patch - one for HDR and the other to do FSAA. However, as I'm Nvidia and non-SLI maybe I'm talking pish.

Nope, one card is all that is needed...

Yes performance will suffer - I never ran it on my (recently) sold(ish) X1800XT but i might be tempted on my new 1900XT..

Well, I have the same resolution on my WS monitor and ran it with HDR 4xAA 8xAF (but dropped the AA down to 2x later in the game) and thought it was okay, with all options on max except shadows. Went through several tweaking guides and even installed some texture mods, but the effect is stunning really,

Sometimes, i preferred to just ride around on my horse in the landscape rather than questing!!! Quite relaxing really... mind you i guess the whole frame rate thing is very subjective, although you do have a better CPU than me.

sawyen when I use non chuck patch all settings on full ay 1680 x 1050 with HDR I get an average of around 40-50fps outside with the chuck patch I get an average of 35-45fps so the loss is negligible to me.. but I don't know how it will run on your computer... hope this helps!
