    Need new G-Card

My 9800 pro just croaked. Luckilly my board runs either AGP of PCI-E, budget of £100 but prefer £75. What is a good budget buy? Mainly used for games DoD-S, eve, BF2, etc. No support for crossfire etc.

    Cheers

    Jon

you could probably scrape a 7600GT with that budget
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=458375
or maybe go for the downgraded GS version.

That looks rather nice, dim question. Am running a rather large CRT, the card being dual dvi isnt a problem is it?

nup, as its dual-dvi you should get 1 (maybe 2 if they're being kind) DVI-VGA adaptors

Have you considered the Inno3D Gefore 7600 GST? I think you can pick one up at pcnextday for around 90 quid.

You'll easily play all the latest games at decent settings with this

Can get a Radeon Radeon X850XT for £100, any advantage to that? Or a X1800 GTO for £116.

Has to be said have been buggering around with computers and trying to figure out graphics cards hasnt got any easier since the amiga days

Sorry to hijack your thread flibb but similar situation so just tohught id ask, hope you dont mind

It may be a silly question but basically will the card in that link provide a noticable improvement in games over an on board ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series?

    Cheers.

*edit* My mate wants it and basically he wants to know if itll run fear pretty well

    Xpress 200?

i'd say it would make a phenominal emprovement, as its not only offloading cpu cycles to a dedicated graphics processor, its not taking any system memory to run.

then again, i dont know how good the xpress 200 is so i dont really know

I replaced a 6600GT with a X850 Pro yesterday. I unlocked the disabled pipelines and was playing BF2 at 1280 with most things set to high. My existing waterblock fitted both cards too.

Generally happy, as the Mrs now has the 6600 for her RTS sessions.

The 7600gt is a good recommendation. I wouldn't go with a X800/850 as they can't do SM3.0 which is important in recent games. It would be a good step up from the 9800 - I think you'll be pleasently surprised (they're basically faster than a 6800GT, which was a blinder in it's time )
