    Radeon 1800XT to replace 7600gt?

    Quick question if you please.

I currently run twin 7600gt in my SLI system, however i have run up against some compatability problems so its time to rip em out.

Is the radeon 1800xt worth considering (i only have a mid range system) as i can get one for around £100 with 256mb of memory.

Also i take it the ATI card would work on an SLI motherboard as long as its in the first slot.

    thanks

It will work for sure, just that the 7600GT SLI will probably be a tad bit faster on SLI enabled games. So be sure to get used to it..

X1800XT 256MB for £100 would be a bargain if u could get it..

A 1800XT would indeed run well in mid-range system, and would be fine in an SLi motherboard (but not two x1800's).
My impression however would be that 2 x 7600GT's would be faster than one x1800XT, under most benchmarking-type conditions.
Then again, if they arn't being too compatible, sell 'em seperately (£60 to £70 each?) and buy the 1800XT.

thats why i thought drop back a generation

I have an X1800XT 256MB and it looks good...it's been sitting in it's box for about a week waiting for more parts to arrive!

The reason I got mine though is because it was cheap and is a good performer, I read a lot of reviews and got a lot of advice about what card to get etc. and this one is the one that came out best everytime. It's about twice/three times the power of my current card so I really can't wait to get my new rig running with it.

As has been said 2x7600GTs should out performe the X1800XT, so why the change of cards if you have and SLi setup? What's it incompatable with? I didn't think that it was possible to have issues with SLi/Crossfire..

I'm running X1800XT on SLI motherboard now so I can confirm that they will work together. And like everyone else said, 7600GT in SLI will easily outperform X1800XT.(Acutually 7300GT DDR3 in SLI will be just as fast or maybe even bit quicker than X1800XT)3dmark05 score is about 8500-9000 depending on your processor. 100quid for X1800XT is absolute steal in my opinion. I got mine for 170 about a month ago and the price was dropping quite rapidly since then. lol. It's a quite good performer and I like it a lot but if I were you I would probably spend bit more and go for X1900XT.

2 7300GT is pants IMO... 3dmark doesnt mean much.. X1800XT takes the cake here. Basically 7300GT is somewhere around a 6600GT perhaps a wee bit faster. 7600GT on SLI should be marginally faster than a X1800XT.. but really depends on the apps u run..

I 'm afraid they are freaking fast mate. I had those little cards in SLI and I can say they are bit faster than X1800XT. I tried both so I can tell the difference. But they are so fragile one of them started showing artifacts in 2days so I had to return them both.

I would be surprised if an 7600GT SLI config would beat an X1800XT!

having upgraded from an 7800GT SLI config to an X1900XTX, I was blown away by the performace. The only time the SLI config *MIGHT* be faster is if you turn off all AA/Ansitropic....

Once you turn the bells and whistles on and ramp the resolution up, I find the ATI cards leave the SLI configs behind.

To be very honest only thing that X1800XT has impressed me was it's weight. Performance wise it's okay but not really that impressive.

No, single X1900XTX out performed 2 x 7800GT in SLI, especially in the higher resolutions with all the eye candy turned on.

I think the only game where the SLI came out on top for me was FEAR, and that was marginal at best.

The nVidia cards really don't like you enabling AA at high resolutions.....from the benchies I have seen, the 7950 does seem to have picked up some of that slack .

I've been reading that the 7300GT is fast, but its not THAT fast. Its a budget card, most of the benchies shows its liek a tad bit faster than a 7600GT. And obviously a 7600GT is slower than a X1800XT..

Unless you're talking about the Inno3D DDR3 version, which in this case, its about the speed of a 7800GT, which is still slower than an X1800XT..

I bet not many X1800XT will reach 11039 in 3dmark05. At least, mine doesn't lol

but why 3dmark05? AFAIK, 3dmark is fairly synthetic.. real world benchies is what matters most..

And you never know, perhaps the 7300GT is cooled alot better? having seen scores around, 7300GT scores about 4.9k when OCed.. so seeing 11k on SLI only warrants water cooling..

X1800XT doing 11k is not too uncommon, water cooling should have enuf grunt to reach it..

    My X1800XT does 9.8k..

But again, have a look at real world benchmark.. .. I'm sure you'll be suprised..
