    DVI problems

    Hi,

since a couple of weeks my display image is distorted when using the DVI output of my graphics card. When using the normal VGA out the picture is perfectly clear and readable.

What could be the cause of this (the distortion is already visible before the OS has loaded)?

I personally think it must be an issue with the DVI-cable but I haven't had a chance to replace it with a different cable yet (the computer was not moved or changed in any way so I am not too sure how it would break anyways).

Does anyone know what the cause could be or how to fix this oddity.

    Thanks in advance.

If you can, try the monitor on a PC that you know has a working DVI out, just to rule it out.

it could also be DVI port on your monitor. Elimination is the key!

Just had my 6800LE replaced as the DVI port wouldnt output anything (although was recognised in XP) but VGA was still perfect. Seems the 2 can run in isolation.

As said you need to be sure though by connecting it to another DVI enabled monitor to eliminate it being your monitor.

Thanks for all your suggestions so far. Unluckily I don't have another graphics card with a DVI port available atm (nor another monitor with a DVI input).

I should be able to get my hands on one within the next 2 weeks though so I'll report back if I found out what the problem was.
