Upgrade issue
I know this same question has been asked a lot lately so apologies first of all !
My take is slightly different though as I'm currently running a GeForce 5800 Ultra (and before anyone jokes about the Hoover attached, I replaced with a Zalmann Copper Cooler).
What could I upgrade this to without breaking the bank ? Is there anything in the £100 range that would give me any improvement ? I've started to get onscreen glitches and think the old dear may be on her way out after a good few years in action.

7600GS or 7600GT for around that price.
-
I'm guessing you're on AGP so something like http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=466649 Would bump up performance.
-
If you really want the best that money can buy on AGP then look at this page
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...Thumbnails=yes
but at £100 then take a look at this page
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...=452&OrderBy=1
with the 7600GT as the best performing.
-
Yes, I'm stuck with AGP !
Would a 7600GT outperform the BFG overclocked 7600GS with 512mb of memory then ?
-
The 7600GT would probably win as the 512MB memory is raely even made use of on top end cards. The GPU will run out of steam way before it ran out of memory.

Yes, 256MB will suffice for video memory, 512MB is a marketing exercise - I understand there was a Toms Hardware article on this.
