Which graphics card (with ref to monitor)?

Hi all!

I'm upgrading at the moment and all I've got left to buy is a graphics card. I'm not sure what to go for, but I have in mind a 7900GTX. My question is that with a 17" monitor running at 1280x1024 (I won't be upgrading this), is it worthwhile getting a card of this level, or running at this resolution could I get away with a 'lesser' card and not notice much difference in performance?

The rest of my new PC comprises...

Mobo - MSI K9N Platinum
CPU - Athlon X2 4600+
Memory - 2Gb Corsair TwinX XMS DDR2 667MHz
Supply - Hiper 580W Type R

How about a 7900GTO? Dabs are doing them for ~£160 (or £150 if you've got any pending vouchers )

If you're really intent on notching up AA and AF, then it may be worth getting a card of this calibre, and the GTO is significantly less in price for approx the same performance as the GTX.

Just noticed that it's jumped in price to £183...I would probably still be tempted at that price, but either this or a similar card would do you well
