    Which Monitor?

Yes, it's another thread asking which monitor you'd recommend me.

I'm looking for a 17" to 19" TFT Monitor, with a limit of about £200 - if you can lower price without sacrificing much quality, all the better!

Largely, it would just be used around the desktop, with some games and the occasional film. I'd prefer both a DVI and VGA connection that's easy to swap between, and I'd also like it to cope relatively well with resolutions that aren't native.

Oh, and if it makes any difference whatsoever, it'll be used mainly in Debian GNU/Linux.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Mike.

What are your thoughts on widescreen? Couple in your price range:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=360440
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=466644

oops, those only have D-sub connectors.

    Otherwise something like these?

Though they are towards the top end of the budget...

I'd probably prefer not to have widescreen - don't really see the appeal myself, especially considering that some programs i.e. many games won't play nice with widescreen. Still, if the price is right, I'll still consider it!

    Thanks for the suggestions.

The Second two are 5:4 ratio screens - so might be more appealing, with both DVI and VGA connections

For £200 you can get a good 19", and i would.
    - There so much bigger and nicer than there 17" counter parts.
    - Im writing this on my Samsung 940t, which ive had for just under year.
    - And now and just considering geting a second to go along side it, Rocking!

I can recommend the Viewsonic VX724 - a 17" 1280x1024 3ms response time monitor which has a crisp picture, great colours and is supurb for FPS games. Savastore have it for around £160.

The only thing I found with 19" screens is that the pixels are bigger - same resolution but differing size, means that they are simply bigger pixels - hence I was quite happy with my trusty LG1710S

Yeah, i was quite worryed about that before i got the SM940T.
    - You can see the pixals (as you can with a 17") and they are obvously alla little bigger to fill the space.
    - However, i would never swith back to a 17" out of choice, 19" is just SOO much bigger, and your really dont notice the pixels.

Also, i would always stear clear from widescreen. It doesnt even look good.
    - I got a widescreen 15.4" laptop, and its a mess, bu the time youve got the dropdownbar, the menubar, taskbar, etc. Theres no hight left!! Its like looking at a webpage though a postbox!

Just squint at the screen - bingo, can't see the pixels and get free anti-aliasing!

Yea Curly just had a look @ PCWorld for the Samsung SM 205BW for £209 here..
    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/325043
Looks like pc world have got their facts wrong with the contrast and latency... 25ms instead of 6-8ms??
    Heres the real spec
    http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/m...Specifications

Unless pc world have some sort of dumbed down version..

*Edit*: I've just reserved one for pick up tomorrow night after work ... we will soon see if its the real thing... I'm not buying it until i'm satisfied .. i'll report back
