LG L204WT Fixed aspect ratio 1:1

I am very keen to buy one of these 20" monitors since they seem to be excellent value for money at the moment. However, there are a couple of things that are holding me back, chiefly the fixed apect ratio issue that i keep hearing about.

Does anybody know if it is actually possible to force the monitor to 1:1 or will I just have to live with stretching if for example a game does not support widescreen resolutions?
I have an nvidia 7900GTO btw

On a separate ish note, I was wondering if it scales to lower resolutions well too.
