    Question Graphics Upgrade

I currently have a X800 XT PE 256 AGP card, I am moving to PCI-E by the end on the month, looking at the following graphics card

    Connect 3D Radeon X1900XT 256Mb

Found it for £175 new, would this run 1680x1050 ok?

Games I play are BF2, BF2 2142 Demo, CS Source, Guildwars

    Thanks

    Andy

I'd recommend getting the 512Mb for BF2/BF2142. Costs around £40 more.

you should be fine with just the 256MB version, I still wouldn't advise anyone right now to upgrade their graphics card at least until around Christmas time since it is sooo close to the DX10 cards and even if you don't want one it will bring the prices down of all the previous generation cards...

I see from your system that you don't seem to practise what you preach...

I've had this card for over 7 months now, basically as soon as it was launched I had it... so it doesn't really count when we are literally a month or 2 away from DX10 cards (perhaps not ATi since they don't own a calendar apparently )

Realistically though, who's brave and rich enough to jump on the first gen wave of dx10 cards? I know I'll be waiting til at least the Summer before I even consider the jump. But I agree, hold until the dx10 cards hit and watch the current card prices plummet.

Not really. I just looked at the price of a 6800 Ultra on Scan - £245.58.

What will happen is that certain lines will disappear fast - having been run down in the runup to launch. A new version of the old card, with lower specs (like the 6800XT), will come out at a budget price, and if you want anything decent you have to buy one of the new cards.

You may get lucky and get a decent card at a lower price, but it won't be knockdown - the X1900XTs are already at a bargain price.

There's no point in waiting for dx10 if you ask me. Until there are dx10 only games I don't see a point, especially as you'd have to upgrade to vista as well.
