Angry WTF! My Leadtek PX7900GTX Lagging Big time???

I have just purchased the Leadtek PX7900GTX after reading reviews from gamers that it will run almost any thing set to MAX with no problem...

But im getting major lag in games!
I have tried Call of Duty 2
with all settings on MAX and it runds Great for about 3min and all of a sudden it lags and feels like its running at 3FPS

So i then tried putting all settings on MIN and same thing runs grat for about 3 min and then lags again

    Also tried it with FEAR
and same Problem where it does not matter if it is set to PC and Graphics to min of max as after 3-5 min of playing it will lag again big time that i can not realy play it.

I've tried latest driver from Nvidia site version 91.47 and still no joy..

Has any one got any ideas, Please

    Thanks for all POSTS

Whats the spec of the rest of your rig? If that can't keep up then you are not going to be able to run everything on full. Otherwise can you see if the GPU is throttleing due to either heat or power issues?

Oh Enjoy... Found the problem! LOL! what a joke.

After installing the chip set driver and 3D card drivers about a million time i started to look at the Nvidia settings and there was a temp reader that was reading 65c which i thought was hot? Then there is an option to warn if GPU gets over 110c... so enabled that and started playing FEAR and was working great again for 5min and then slowed down and then bombed out to desktop showing temp warning.

So i opened up my shuttle to check on it, and the sodding 3D card fan is not spinning!!!

Found out that there was a capacitor on the MOBO pressing under the fan shield which was stopping the fan. Once i lessened the screws on the back PCI slot i could move the card a few mm to the right so now its not touching the capacitor.

Now its a Beast!!!! Every thing on MAX on every thing and running sweet as a nut

Glad you found the problem, and thank goodness for throttling or you'd have a very smokey computer..

Either that or you'd have to do what a few people have had to do. Sacrifice their quiet computer for an open case with a desk fan blowing onto it (or 2 in my friends case, well 3 as there is 2 on 1 PC and a third fan on his main rig)

The 7900 series really is a beat of line-up, I've not had any problems with my two, GT and GTO, the GT is nothing compared to the GTO though, superb card.

Glad you got the problem sorted, just make sure it doesn't happend when you upgrade to a DX10 card

"I've heard there is a common problem with this item from forums" - If you read some forums they believe Elvis was abducted by aliens, doesn't mean it's true.

gotta say dude...I'm really pleased you found that. It's one of those things that could have caused you MONTHS of grief, then an RMA, which may have resulte din No Fault Found and it's worth remembering for other members here in future.

I once had a copper heatsink on a 9600 Pro that I didn't know was shorting out on one of the chips on the graphics card PCB. It was pure fluke but I tried taking off the heatsink, and putting black electrical tape all around the underside, (except obviously the square area for the gput to touch) and it's worked ever since

    Proud of you mate...proud!
