Decent CRT?
Hi
I need a new monitor for gaming, i've had 2 mitsubishi diamontron 930SB's for like 6/7 years now and there now showing there age. both have been at uni with me for the last 3 year so they have seen a fair amount of abuse, and a hell of a lot of smoke.
I recently bought a 20inch dell monitor which i have to say is horrible to play games with.
so i bought a ViewSonic G90fb - display - CRT - 19" which seem ok out of the box, but there are a few things which are just not up to par with the other mitsu's and iiyama which i really want. It has a flat glass panel but it is slightly curved the actuall display, the refreshrate at 1600x1200 only goes up to 77, 85 is a min as i can see it flickering at 77.
is there any decent CRT's available new now ? or have they all been pushed out of the market for the cheaper, less powerful, less harmfull, prettier flat panel dire products?
i really want a new Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454, is there anyone that has them still new ? there not even on ebay. not that i could be arsed to get one from there because paypal is also dire.
oh needs to be 19inch, 1600x1600 min 85hz, pref black but not bothered
Cheers
Rob

Please post in the correct forum !!! :)

fact of the matter is, these things are not worth their money anymore. i have had my 454a pro for about 3.5 years now, and its in immaculate condition. i love it, and am about to move upto a 24inch HDMI-ready TFT soon, but even if you were to offer me around £50-60 for it, the bigger issue is how it gets shipped to you - these things are heavy!

I've got the Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454. It's pretty good, it can do some mad refresh rates. I think it does 1280x1024@200Hz
I'd keep checking on eBay, try and find one local so you can collect it. Thats what I did with mine since there was no way I was going to find one new for a reasonable price.

having said that, i live in west midlands so if you are anywhere close and can make a goodish offer, then i can drop it down, with its original box, cabling, everything!
-
hmm, i would but i am in norfolk and dont really have the time to drive that far i dont think, how far is it from you to norwich (in miles) and i'll see if i will have time todo it after work.
either way i'd pay 60 for it.

I recently replaced a less than 3 year old Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 with a ViewSoniv VP2030b, and I find the new LCD much better than the CRT which was a sod to get the geometry right on it.
Because of the bulk and cost of carriage I did not even bother to try to sell it, I just took it down the dump, and it got 'sent to Africa' as it was working OK.
At that time there were still a few about new, but now they seem to be defunct. I would never go back - an I hung onto 'glass' for years (being forced into LCD at work and hating them for years.....), but my VP2030b is superb!

That was nice of you, you've given those evil scammers a nice monitor.
I personally hate the dell 20inch, just cant play cs on it, i'm not ready for the change just yet.
luckily i havnt had to make the change to TFT at work although everyelse has, i'm using 2x21inch viewsonics.
-
I would have gladly given it to someone else who wanted it (...you perhaps...) but I was under the impression no-one would want it, or it would have been difficult to find someone. I just needed to get rid due to space issues.
I would not be prepared to drive it far, but I could have flown it to a strip near the new 'owner' to come and pick it up... and Norfolk is not that far.
Ho hum too late now....

I have one of http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-P1130-22-...QQcmdZViewItem
Picked mine up for about £50, when there were hundreds floating about eBay. They tend to be slightly over bright, but nothing you cant fix in 30seconds.
That or prepare to cough up £300 for a decent TFT.

Hi chuckskull, yeh i'm not keen on the enclosure on those dell monitors, there seem to be plenty of them on ebay though, i really would prefer a iiyama for the refresh rates.
and again i already have a dell 20inch which i bought a few weeks ago, thinking of selling it tbh, but i may mount it in my bedroom, if i can be arsed to look for a wallmouting bracket.
-
Yeah they aren't pretty, but CRT's never are. This one does 1600x1200@85hz, dont know if the iiyama will go much faster.
-
I think the Iiyama does 1600x1200@100Hz. It's not all about the refresh rate though as I've noticed the image quality being better at 85-100Hz rather than 120hz plus on lower resolutions anyway.
Admittedly higher refresh rates are usually a lot easier on the eyes with CRT's
-
i dont mind the CRT look and size, has never bothered me. But that dell, the borders on around the screen just look really big and clunky and just generally ugly. yeh the iiyama is a sick monitor chuckskill, as ash_rm said it does crazy refresh rates.
Its all personaly preference and what feels most comfortable, i use 640x480 in counter-strike purely because i am so used to it and cant play at any other resolution. other games i like high res's.

I have a cracking 21'' Sony CRT which always did me well.
Its yours if you want to come and get it ?

Thanks for the offer ikonia, but i have decided i want the Iiyama VM Pro 454.
I have put a thread in the wanted section of the "HEXUS.classifieds - Sell your stuff!" so if anyone has one please see that this thread.
Thanks
