X1950xtx worth it ?

Wanna replace my 7800gt in my current system as im gonna be getting a 22" monitor soon. Really like the x1950xtx but am wondering if my processor which is only a s939 4000+ will hold it back too much ?
Dont wanna spend £300 notes for not much improvement cheers for any advice.

hmmm toughie

I'd say keep the 7800GT for a little longer as TFT's scale down pretty well. Then when G80 and ATI's R600 are out spend your hard earned on one of them

I wouldn't say it's worth it right now. Next gen(G80 for DX10) cards are due out somtime in early or mid november from what I hear. That means it's only a month or so untill big price cuts and fantastic new cards hit the shelves.

The next gen cards currently don't look that great TBH.

I would consider it and then wait for the second round of DX10 cards.

You would definitely see an improvement over your 7800gt, but whether it's £300 worth of improvement is doubtful. I personally would wait a while for a DX10.

Was considering waiting for the dx10 cards but wouldnt the gulf between processor and graphics be even larger ?
Looks like i might save my money for a system rebuild

having just bought an x1950xtx i can say that yes they are superb cards but i upgraded from a 9700pro so the difference was huge, i doubt you'll get anywhere near as much. I'd wait a bit for the next batch of graphics cards and see what the state of the market is then. You should be able to play anything on your current card right?

For £290/300 i think it's a bargain. Then again, i'm upgrading from a 7600GS..not a 7800GT.

Plus the next gen cards are gonna be huge power hogs therefore new power supply = $$$ , vista isn't around for ages = $$$, and XP wont be supporting DX10, if it does it's a long way off, plus no games are written in DX10 yet?!

No reason waiting IMO.

I think it is worth the wait. Vista has been announced due early 2007. And with a new OS everythign will change like from 98 to XP.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a Hexus review on one of these cards, has the ones I been reading are mixed up, and show at different sites, different winners, I would like an unbiased review, and know Hexus must have one.
