Is it just me, or is the G80's die a little huge...

ok.. maybe its one of those heatspreaders they used during the FX-days..

I think more like the lights will go permanently dim whenever u power up the system that has one of these in it..

During 3D load everything else shutdowns to feed enough juice to this thing..

and did I notice dual SLI connectors? Perhaps for SLI physics?

EDIT: From the piccies on NVNEWS.. looks like a big mouth by an internal employee.. you can even trace the chinese customs papers below the card on one of the photos..

that or more 'bandwidth' for next-fen graphics in my opinion.

and remember the external PSU rumour, i would count that put really, i think you'll need a whole lot of juice for these babies..

Yeah it's a IHS of some kind, sure I saw a picture of the card with it removed.

makes sense to have the PCI-E connectors on the side.. because no friggin case (except those that has similar clearings to the Akasa Eclipse 62) is going to have enough space to fit this thing..

Geforce 8800 GTX is huge, just over 11 inches in length

Then i suppose it's all relative, depending on the gap your trying to push it into

Adds yet another item to shopping list....

    8800gtx
    Larger case
    1000w PSU
    Air conditioning unit for house
Nuclear Power station for bottom of garden.

You'll need a damn good cpu to get 11k in 3d mark 06, apparently with a ~2.5ghz core 2 duo it will only get 8k, approximately the same as a 7950gx2. More than a 7900gtx at 6k though.

yeah, i really wouln't bother with one of these unless you have at least a Athlon X2 at 3.2Ghz+ or a Conroe at 2.8Ghz+.

    In todays games, yup.

Come a game that requires new things though, it would be 'worth' it even with a lesser CPU.

Well if you think like that, the card won't be fast enough in future DX 10 games.

That's probably going a bit too far

Point is todays dx9 games won't benefit from it as they are CPU bound - ie they're not either using dx10 feature or taxing the dx 9 ones enough. Future games will be dx10 and more taxing, thus making the GPU the bottleneck and removing the 'need' for a faster CPU
