X1800XT256 to 7900GTO....Worth it??????

Just changed my 3200 Venice to a skt 939 4600X2, now want to upgrade my X1800XT256. Im running WoW, BF2/2142 and Oblivion on my Dell 2405, and would like to run most games at native 1920x1200. Is the 7900GTO the way forward, or am I better off looking at a X1900XT512 ????

Also how quiet is the stock cooler on the GTO, I bought a Zalman900 cooler for the X1800XT as it was SO noisy, any comments from users out there plz?

Also how much would you reckon to sell a X1800XT256 with the Zalman 900 for???

I had that thought before really.. (i.e. X1800XTPE --> 7900GTO) but having to rethink again, you're not really going any faster.. perhaps 10%-15%.. besides X1800XT is pretty speedy already.. and if 1920 res where you're at.. the only solution geared up for that is 7950GX2 unless you're ok with no AA.

I think the X1800XT will tide in nicely until G80 and their refresh.. oo.. and also the R600..

I'd say hold this one out unless you're owning say a 6800GS or such..

Hmmmmmmmm Perhaps you are right, I just figured around £70-80 cost of change seemed quite reasonable for a good performance hike, but do you seriously think it will only be a 10 - 15% gain, cos thats not really worth it :confused:

Definatly not worth it.

Only worthwhile option would be a X1950XTX or 7950 GX2.

GULP.............Not ready for that sort of spend!!!! Think ill stick with my 1800 till the dx10 cards come along....

If you want to play WoW at 1920x1200 full AA/AF, then you NEED an top-end ATI card.

WoW does not work properly with SLI (including the 7950s) and you will get single-card performance with lots of graphics issues....

A single X1900/X1950XT will just about get you through most places completely maxed out.

Im running at full res with 24bit colour and 2x aa and its good most of the time with average frame rate of about 30.What sort of improvement Do you think a 1900XT512 will give ??:confused:

With a single 1950XTX I was running at 60fps with everything completly maxed.

Only in places like AV and BWL (and IF bank ofc ;) )would I drop to around 40fps.

Guess thats your answer then! wait for the xtx/etc to drop in price (fingers crossed) when the dx10 cards have been out a bit, an 1800xt will tide you over till then! (some people would love even an 1800xt!)

Sorry to be slighly off topic but I was wondering how a much of a difference it made going to a 4600 from a 3200? I'm likely to get a 4400 soon and I was wondering if you felt the upgrade had been worth it?

its all about the multitasking.. gaming serves little purpose really..

been about 50% faster for my protein sims.. and about 100% faster than my aging dual Xeons..
