Which of the above do i get? Should i get any of the above at all?

Have you checked the dead pixel policy on those brands? Becuase some manufacturers will only replace your monitor after you have a certain amount of dead pixels on your screen. If you happen to have a red little square in the centre of your monitor it can be very annoying. Click here to read on dead pixel policies

Im also considering buying a flat panel monitor, and so far I have singled out THIS ONE

if your paying that much for it, dont you think that the hercules 920 may be a better buy?

No, the LG is a better monitor...IT has 16ms response time for a start...If i were buying a LCD i would go with the LG!

Yeh, LG one is better, 16ms respond time, and a DVI connector, for sharper images.

Great choice mate Why?? 'Cos I have that screen and it r0x You can connect two video sources to it and absolutley zero ghosting on games and DVDs

toms had a comparison between the herc 920 and a load of other monitors a while back, and even though it was 20ms, the picture quality and accuracy more than made up the difference over cheaper 16ms brands, so it may well be worth taking a few mins to read that first. also check where you're buying the monitor from - some places will check your monitor for dead pixels before sending it to you, for a cost obviously...

yeah i saw the toms hardware review and the hercules looks pretty mean ... buts its only dvi whichll be a problem for me.

the lg looks great aswell, but aswell as the 1710b, theres the 1710s (looks nearly the same - i geuss the s and b denote silver / black) and the 1720 which looks super slick.

Id probably go for the 1720 if its all based on the same screen, but what do you guys say?

the lg1710s has no DVI connector iirc...

I would find a better source than toms before buying a prophetview because of it.

the newer 1720 *does* look sweet...but as far as I can see it has no DVI connector either - incredibly strange considering it's mroe expensive than the 1710B...looks obviously cost a lot!

As a member of the 1710B club I can recommend it, personally I wouldn't want to spend >£350 on an analog panel...

I love my NEC 1760NX. no problems, altho ive never used any others, its a great screen 16ms reponse, and looks cool with no seperate power brick

The wonders of onboard PSUs on LCDs is great and a must makes cabling easier and looks neater

LG 1710B best monitor for the money imho

The hercules looks like a really nice one, I quite fancy one myself! I spotted a 19" one around the net just before too. Yum!

The iiyama 431s seems to be cool aswell. It has a decent rpice but hasnt got many reviews on ebuyer - just want to know how it does with gaming. Its cheaper than the LG 1710b by £20, but the LG seems to be rated by more ppl.

Will probably buy the LG from simply ( there about £290+ but their london branch is close to me so ill save on delivery) unless someone can convince me to get sonething else

i can personally vouch for the 43x series, including as a gaming tft - and i can say with absolute confidence that it's far far better than the popular hitachi model
