    nVidia statement on 8800 recall

    Statement from NVIDIA:

Today NVIDIA announced the hard launch and immediate availability of our new flagship GeForce 8800 GPUs. Some recent reports on the web mention a BOM error (wrong resistor value) on initial GeForce 8800 GTX boards. All boards with this problem were purged from the production pipeline. Product on shelves is fully qualified and certified by NVIDIA and its board partners. We and our board partners stand behind these products and back them with our full warranty.

Too expensive to risk, especially after the 7900 series sham.

Clunk ol' buddy, you enjoy being one of the 8 people on the planet who don't want a G80 and a 680i motherboard today.

Rage at the machine all you like, the reviews and user experiences that are piling up this week spell market domination this holiday season, maybe well into next year if the rumors or R600 being a Q2 product are true.

I don't want either of those. Then again why would you want a £200 mobo and £400 gfx card? That is just crazy.

Its not that i dont want one, i dont want one until i know that there arent the quality issues that the 7900 series have, 500 quid is a lot for yet another ballache. If they are fine, then thats great, but ill wait for other people to find that out for me. If the 680 board allows independant memory overclocking and a high fsb, then i might have some interest in it, but otherwise it can knob off

I would wait for the price to fall. Now the price is just way off. Probably wait until they release more models.

You are correct that motherboards usually aren't as an upgrade as video cards.

If you're big into OCing the 680i might be the bees knees.

BTW- Wifey impresses me as well. (or did when I first started seeing her years ago-off to check out how she's aged)

Way off what? It's miles and miles faster than anything else, and is the only DX10 card in public existance. If anything, 7900 and X19x0 prices are too high, rather than the 8800 series.

OK so DX10 won't mean much for a little while, but still. It's new and unique. You pay the premium. That's never changed.
