Dont know which TFT to go for!

Hey chaps, first of all hello!

Second of all i hope you can help me with a new TFT to go for.

I just ordered a new computer from eBuyer, unfortunately i'm a bit stuck with going with them because i have some substantial credit from an old refund that i need to use up with them, so i'd rather do it all in one go!

I want something fairly high resolution, i currently have 2x15" monitors setup because i use my machine for music production and its extremely handy to have alot of "real estate". I am also intending to play games on this and do a bit of vid/photo editing.

I'm thinking a widescreen might be the way forward? It certainly feels more natural having the screen wider that it is taller!

My budget tops out at £300 for a monitor, i really dont want to go any higher!

    Options :

    Viewsonic

I do believe that the Samsung 205B is available from PC World for £230 which is about 65 off of what ebuyer have it for, and you can pick it up from the store, its a superb monitor and will serve you well for everything you use it for, just depends what graphics card you are planning on using.

    Hey Lith,

all the mons you posted are nice spec and will be fine just none of them are cheap. Like mada said the Samsung from PCworld would be a sweet buy for you since you wanna go widescreen and is pretty much everything you will need.

if you want maximum desktop space for editing and what not, maybe you space for 2x19" Samsung SM940BW £163

I personally have a Dell2405fpw atm which is quite nice, only time i ever use it properly is when i watched 1080i stuff or xbox360 other than that its pretty much wasted.

Since going widescreen I doubt I will ever go back to normal since I watch a lot of media. Unless you actually need a 20"+ screen, I think value for money is more important.

If you need a huge res tft then go all the way and grab a 24"+ but if its gaming and some photoshopping I think you better off with the 19" value wise.

At the end its gonna have to be your call, I think if you are after the new 88GTX DX10's maybe buy 1 tft now and keep the rest on credit if pos hhmm then again powering a 19" with your 88GTX..bit of a waste lol, man tough choices.

Well the idea for getting something around 20-22" or so and not going for something like 24" first is because its probably a total waste of money for me right now.

If i get a 20" for under £300, i can add another at a later date and have alot more desktop space than a single 24" and for LESS cost

So looking at those widescreen choices up there, do any of them jump out as the better screen?

i never used any of the above tft but I am with Deluded. Viewsonic, only ever hear good things about them, so dont think you can go wrong with that screen, looks pretty lush.

Man so many conflicting views, enough to drive one absolutely mad

I know samsung do awesome stuff but i dont know about those monitors, everyone says they are good, but like you said, the Viewsonics get excellent reviews tooo!

I did actually have the Viewsonic already on the list though

Only problem thing with Viewsonics are if you need to RMA, you generally get a refurbished monitor in return. The actual new monitors are quite decent from my experience though, so weigh it all up.

The viewsonic has a dvi problem, if it isnt a brand new model (since the new firmware), you will end up returning it and they will send you a dirty old second hand one in place of the new one. avoid.

    Research those monitors on here:

    http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/

I would give you advice about them but i dont know anything about them. I have been researching widescreen flat panel monitors for the past year, and I only found a couple I would consider buying. Unfortunately they are a bit over £300.

The one I am most interested in is the 20.1" NEC 20WGX2, Widescreen TFT, 1680x1050, 6 ms.

But at trade price, and without VAT, and from Scan.co.uk it is £314.89. With the VAT its £370.00. And if you can only buy from a usual retail outlet, its likely to be even more. But its an amazing monitor. I havn't found any others that I personally would want to buy. They mostly have atleast 1 issue, out of a whole list of issues these types of monitors can have. (Backlight bleeding, screen door effect, input lag, ghosting, banding, poor colour representation, etc...)

I am very sensitive to things like that for some reason, so I personally couldn't put up with anything that isn't perfect. Thats why im still using a CRT and saving my pennies for the NEC I mentioned above

Another vote for Viewsonic here - I've got the 2025w and it's great, very glad I gave up my old iiyama vmpro454 . Can't say I'll go back to non-widescreen either but if I was buying now I'd probably get the 22" viewsonic http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=480136 which ebuyer don't seem to have...

Same goes for practically every company in my experience! You usually have to have two or three rmas before you get a new product.
