    geforce 8800gtx HELP!

    Hello everyone, first post,

Ive just picked up a shiny new INNO3D 8800 GTX and after carving a gap in my case I managed to get it to fit. I ran 3d mark 06 and.........

my score comes in at 8495 which I think is too low for this card.

My specs are amd 4600 x2
    inno 3d 8800gtx
    2x1gb corsair twinx
    m2n32sli deluxe
Antec true power 650 watt psu

My previous 7950 gx2 gave me 7495. My new card represents a 1000 mark increase which is nowhere near what I was expecting or paid for!

Is this a driver problem, I have the latest 97.02 forceware.

Could it be a setting in the control panel? What settings do you guys have?

    Is it the mobo?

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Many thanks.

    Shane

might be cpu limited. Personally i think you do need a very powerful cpu to 'back' the card up. To prove/disprove this crank up the AA in the cp, 2xAA first and rerun the test. Lets see what you get. You 'should' notice a large drop if not then your cpu is limiting the card.

does your motherboard have a 16x pci-e slot, if so, is it set to 16x? I understand that you need a 16x slot to take advantage of the 8800gtx.

His mobo will default to 16x any way Clunk. Hes got a m2n32sli deluxe, whichh is 2x 16x PCI-E.

Easyshas: The GTX should score ~10500 at stock in 3dmark06. A GTS scores ~8500 in 3dmark 06. BUT those scores are achieved using a C2D x6800. So you'll need to take into account your slower CPU. Try overclocking your CPU, if it gives you a good score increase for a relatively small oc, then you know its CPU limited

Thanks guys for all the replies, I think cpu limitation is the key here I just didnt expect my x2 4600 would lop off as much as 2000 3d marks!

There must be something else, as my old 7950 gx2 gave me 7495 which is close to the benchmarks given for 6800 and fx62 cpus.

Seems a little odd, oh well.

7950 gx2 might be better for the lower resolutions

and you need the full amount of power going into the rail connected to card aswell apparently...

    Dear Clunk,

The power connectors from my psu presented me with a little problem. I reconnected my existing 6pin plug but struggled to find another one and was forced to use 2 of the rmaining 4 pin plugs fitted to an extension cable that came with the card.

My psu is rated as sli compatible, shouldnt it come with 2 connectors ideal for this task?

And how would I know if i didnt have both connected/Wouldnt it not even power up?

On first boot there was a failure to boot but booted ok second time around.

Sounds like that could be your problem. Those two power connectors are there for a reason (although, i admit i dont know what it is). I'm only guessing, but doesnt the 8800gtx require a psu that is sli compatible, as in 2x 6 pin pci-e connectors?
