Dell 3007 not working

I bought a 3007 from an eBay seller (delivered quickly and very reliable) I took it out of the box and powered it up, I got the test screens come up.

I then plugged it using the supplied full pin DVI cable into an nVidia 7600GS AGP card with 256mb VRAM, I was assured it was dual link capable but when the monitor was powered on I either got a blue led with no picture or a red led with no picture.

I returned the card and got a Sapphire ATI X1600 Pro with 512mb VRAM (it SAID Dual link on the package!) I plugged it in and got the same, ie no video on the display.

BOTH cards can drive my L2010P monitor fine, and it looks like the monitor will work as I can see the test patterns.

Short of buying a new PCI Express rig (not willing to do this just yet) is there anything I can do?

Hey,

Have you tried the other DVI port on the card - afaik only one of them will be a dual link DVI port?

It is a DVI / VGA card mate sorry, should have mentioned that in the post

Ah, are you sure that card was advertised as having dual-link DVI then? I thought the DVI/VGA cards only had single link DVI connectors?

yup, I have the retail packaging here, and on the back it says "DVI Dual Link" dabs.com quicklinx 3ZX3WS

even if the card was single link then wouldnt the monitor downsample to a different resolution? I cannot even see things like messages from the BIOS or my RAID controller.

It could be a dead TFT mate. AFAIK, both of those cards should power that screen without an issue. Does it have a D-sub that you can just use for trouble shooting ?

I know I used DC Pro to clean the nvidia drivers but I am using it again now to make entirely sure.

Agent - I mean the text based part of the startup up to and including the Windows XP Flag. There is no DSUB on the panel, just the DVI.

Im not entirely convinced the screen is DOA because it can display the internal test routine (back, geting ever brighter to white then cycling black, Red, Green Blue and White)

So can you get *any* image on the screen at all ? What about the BIOS when you first power it on ?

If you cant get it on at POST, then forget windows. You have a more serious issue than just drivers
Even if the cards were non-dual link. I would think it would just reach the maximum resolution of normal DVI (1920*1200 IIRC)

Sounds like the panel is fine, but the DVI connector on the back might be kaput.

Not got a mate with a shiny new PCI-E setup nearby have you? to test it on to make sure.

oh *CENSORED* I think I have a coule of Gen4 XPSs at work to test it on.

Next stage is to try the new lead and then try and persuade dell I bought a panel and to get it swapped out on the 3 year warranty.

If Dell decide not to play Ball I have the silver account manager to kick some Arse....

there is a little application for resetting the dvi...i have it somewhere, i think its on the other pc but theres no psu in it at the moment, hopefully someone else can find it for you...

I have reloaded my PC with a virgin XP + latest catylist. I know the full DVI cable works as I plugged it into the LG and I am getting a picture. So short of this little App I have a very expensive Disco light which Dell needs to swap out
