19inch widescreen(What's the actual size of the screen?)

Can someone kindly tell me the actual size of the screen for 19inch widescreen monitors? I believe 19inch is diagonal length of the screen so the height of widescreen is actually shorter than that of ordially 19 inch monitor screens? Or am I wrong? My current 17inch screen has 27cm height, can I expect it to have longer screen height than this or is it just about the same? I'm kind of confused. Thanks.

a 19" screen will probably be a little shorter than your 17".

Do you have any models in mind. Any decent online store will dive you the actual physical dimensions of the unit. Some will even tell you the visible screen dimensions too, if not, check the manufacturers site.

Ah I see, thanks for clearing things up for me Funkstar. No I haven't decided yet but I'm looking for something with both VGA and DVI input, and my budget is around 120. Do you have any recommendations?

Have people no basic maths knowledge these days?

It's especially easy with 19" too

Widescreen format is 16:10 ratio. So assuming units of 1", the hyptenuse (screen diagonal) for a 16"x10" monitor is sqrt(16^2 + 10^2). That's sqrt(356), which co-incidentally is just short of 19.

So a 19" widescreen monitor is 10" tall.

the overall size is usually more important to me, and that varies between models so i just look at the specs

Hanns-G do a widescreen 19" model for about £120 which gets good write-ups. I think Amazon and Misco do them, but you'll get free delivery from Amazon...

well.. except widescreen is normally 16:9 - if it was 16:10 they'd just call it 8:5

a 19" widescreen actually has less viewable area than a 19" normal screen..
