    Dead MSI GF4 Ti 4200

well, I came home from work yesterday to find a black screen with, out of scan range on it. PC was on so I restarted and.... It wouldnt boot, after some trouble shooting I decided it must be the gfx card, I tested it in another rig and sure enuf it was b0rked. now I have had this thing for just over a year but I cant remember where I got it, I will contact MSI about an RMA but I am not sure if the warranty covers it because I did overclock it (software tho, in the drivers) cant actually remember what I had it clocked at.

Well, now I am using a GF2 and I am looking for a decent card, was thinking of a herc 9800 SE AIW but I am wonderig weather its worth waiting a little bit more as I was gonna leave this upgrade till after xmas.

    what do you guys think?

oh and any suggestions or links on where to find a cheap herc 9800 SE AIW would be much appreciated. lowest I have found so far is £162 on tekheads.

The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

got this from my event viewer, any1 have any idea of the chances of getting it RMA`d?

sounds like the famous nvidia infinite loop driver problem
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

The infinite error loop was in most cases caused by undervolting from the PSU.

could it possibly kill a card?

because the card no longer works I assumed that teh card caused the error, could it be the other way round?

At risk of sounding like a stuck reccord, the 5900lx is imho a better bet than risking the 9800SE like I did, unless you could do with the TV in/record facility (baring in mid that you can get a stand alone TV card to do this that may span systems later).

I am not sure If I want to go the FX route as I have been less than impressed with the reviews I have seen on these cards. It is my understanding that the 5900 sounds like a washing machine on its fastest cycle and im not sure I want to havea leafblower in my rig as its loud enough as it is with 6 80mm fans. also I think the FX cards leave a lot to be desired in terms of DX 9 performance and I dont want to find my self upgradeing it ina few months to play the latest DX9 games.

even If I can o/c a herc 9800 then it will still bea good card. the AIW features I honestly wont use but if I choose to sell the card the AIW will help it maintain value.
