Yes, the gf just bought me for xmas:

    e6300
    Asrock
    1Gb 533 DDR2
    1 x Galaxy 7300 GT 256 DDR3

I had wanted a 7600 but she miss ordered, I know as I have peeked at it lol I can't very well upset her by replacing it, so throw another one in for a couple of months until I can replace both n she hopefully won't notice

It's not going to happen. SLi still requires an nVIDIA chipset as far as I'm aware, and the 945P certainly isn't made by nVIDIA.

Wouldn't worry too much, the Galaxy 7300GT is actually based on the 7600 series cards/chips from reviews I read.
Is this the one? (low profile).
Or this one which i actually cant find on Galaxy's website.

Either way, it seems the 7300GT does make for a playable graphics card, with Quake 4 at 1600 x 1200 with full AA and AF, over 30 fps.
    What resolution is your monitor?

So you can run crossfire (ATI's version of SLI) most likely.

Edit: Yup. Even has XFire in the motherboard name

Not really, it means that the 7300GT is probably exactly the right card for you and you'll be able to game really well with no issues in modern games.

Is this the one? That supports ATi crossfire, ATi's version of nVidia's SLi.

What would you recommend mid range from ATI to run crossfire? I have only just got to grips with the current nVIDIA ranges lol

I will move from 7300GT DDR3 in next soon, as this is my jump up from AGP to PCI-E

Wait until you play with what you have. Only consider changing if the setup doesnt do what you want.
Honestly - ignore trying to stay on the 'upgrade' cycle - it'll cost you.

I wouldn't bother with crossfire to be honest Better to get a single fast card.

It doesn't have to be for graphics. RAID/SATA cards, TV cards, sound cards, physics cards, network cards... pretty much anything on PCIc will be moving up over time, and a lot of it already is.

I know this is going to sound wierd but I have always like since AGP graphics having its own location on the board...

So really we're just going full circle back to the all PCI or PCI/ISA boards?

Not necessarily. There's generally some PCI-Express x1 slots (for the cards less bandwidth-hungry), at least 1 PCI-Express x16 slot (at least 2 for SLi or Crossfire) and sometimes a PCI-Express x8 slot (can be used for pretty much anything. The PCI-Express x16 slots or lower can be used as PCI-Express x1 slots, so you're not losing anything if you have 4 PCI-Express x16s.

I don't see how having flexible boards is any disadvantage. With all the dual-slot graphics cards on the market, it's bordering on necessary.

As things stand, most boards only have 1 PCI-Express x16 slot, and that gets used for graphics. I'm unaware of any board that has more than 2 PCI-Express x16 slots.
