I just bought a XFX 6800GS for £52, I notice that the 6800XT can be had for £60!
They are both advertised as clocked at 350/1000, so what's the difference?
Any advice on this appreciated :)

the diffrence in in the piplines/pixels per clock
the GS has pixels per clock:12 textures per pixel: 5
the XT has pixels per clock: 8 textures per pixel: 4
making the GS the better card not sure why it costs less!
Thanks :)
I bought the GS on ebay, the seller has the XT listed on thier website for £59.99!
Yep, GS is far superior :p
I have never viewed the XT as a 'proper' 6800, it has much more in common with the 6600's.
The GS is a pumped up 6800 (vanilla) and can play stuff like Battlefield 2 well.
Depends on which version of the GS it is too. The PCIe ones are a whole breed to themselves, a 110nm part that overclocks really well, getting to ultra speeds even with the fewer pipelines. The AGP ones are a mix of pipe-disabled GTs and newer 110nm parts.
The vanilla/GT/Ultra parts are 130nm.
How can I tell which core it is? It's AGP!
It doesn't matter. They're both good.
If you have to tell, rivatuner will show if you've got disabled pipelines or not. If you do have disabled pipes, you have a 130nm card, and might be able to unlock pipelines, if you don't, you have a 110nm card and might be able to overclock it.
Thanks :)
Yeah the GS is the better card. Its a steal at £52, i paid £100 back in august for it! If you have the core where the pipes can't be unlocked you should gain some performance back by being able to overclock it more or so it has been argued. I've got mine clocked at 380/1300Mhz for example.
There's all gooduns! Sheesh :p
One of the tabs should show a list of the pipes, with ticks or crosses by them. If you have only pipes with ticks by them then you have the 110nm 12 pipe only card. This one can be significantly overclocked.
The GT/ultra cards are 16 pipes, and the GS based on these have 4 disabled.
One of the tabs?
I don't have rivatuner on my system anymore, but do a search for unlocking pipelines and rivatuner and you'll find some guides that show you which section it's in.
I have the 6800GS AGP too, it's a damn good card at that price, considering I paid £130 in June!
The GS has the same core as the GT, but with four of the GT's 16 pipelines disabled (one disabled quad) and one of the five pixel shaders disabled.
You can switch these back on using RivaTuner, and then test it by playing a game. If there are artifacts, the fourth quad is damaged and you're stuck with 12 pipelines (as I am), but it's definitely worth checking, as if the other quad works, you've essentially got a 6800GT at a bargain price.
It overclocks pretty well, too, so that's another option.
