    Question HL 2 from ATI

does any one out there know how the deal from ATI work

because i want to buy 9600XT, but i heard you have to download half life 2 , which doesnt sound good if i only got 512kps internet connection.

i do not wish to download a 3gig game through internet.

    PLZ Help

No, but you can request that ATI send it to you using the code on the voucher. I believe they will make a small charge for shipping though.

well, ATiI website, they say you can download the game though STEAM, using the cd key given in the voucher

    http://www.ati.com/gitg/promotions/hl2offer/single.html

    which doesnt sound right, because

i think it says that you can only play the game if you are connected to steam; what if i dont have internet connection and want to play singler player

    I have a 9600xt

You get a voucher, scratch off the panel and you get a serial key. You then use this to claim a free full copy of half life 2, on discs- the retail version upon release of the title.

You can also download steam and use your key to get a pack of bonus stuff- apology for the games late release. Games ike the original half life and then opposing force, team fortress etc. They appear in 'your games' list if you know how steam works and this is where hl2 will appaer also when it released ready for you to download.

You dont have to download it though you just order a retail version of the game if thats your preferance

the website does warn that this could take up to 8 weeks though

Why not download the game ????

I mean with a 512 connection it'll hardly take that long and saves the trek to the shops to get a CD.

I mean if you want the current counterstrike etc then you have to download those in some way, and then as long as you have a key then your away.

    CD through Steam?

Either downloading the game in one chunnk through Steam OR paying a small shipping cost to get the CD's is pretty much what I've heard everywhere else.

Yes but it depends on who you download from. And even at 576.o kbps its gonna take over 14 hours to get 3 gigs worth of data

people seem to be ignoring how steam works

it'll have to download the Ready-To-Play content before you can do anything (i'm guessing about 100 meg, maybe a little more), the remainder would download while you play - a bit like watching a trailer via quicktime, where it starts to play the file before it's donw downloading.
